Some warning signs of bad renting business in NYC

Attention Renters in NYC

When you are renting rooms in this city there are several things that you MUST not do in order for people not to take advantage of you.

1.You should not use a room brokerage service. If someone wants to rent a room they owners would post directly to craigslist—hell it’s Free…!!!
2.Do not pay room brokerage fees before going out to see the room. A broker is supposed to take you to several locations and find a room that is best fit for you. Then you pay a brokerage fee after you have settled into the room (just like a real-estate agent).
3.Never pay “last’s month’s rent”. A room is not an apartment and you should not pay an entire month’s rent for a room when you were not living in it! (That’s just STUPID)
4.Always get a contract and a receipt for “every transaction” if a landlord does not want to provide a receipt then trust me…it’s a scam.
5.Always GOOGLE and address or phone number to see if there are any complaints from tenants about homeowners or landlords on a ‘scam’ webpage.
6.Be aware of your surroundings! You will not get peace and quiet if the room you are about to rent is stationed above a bar or a strip club, etc...it will always be noisy at night.
7.If the owner looks like a crack head—don’t rent from them!
8.IF THERE IS NO FURNATURE IN THE HOUSE…DON’T RENT FROM THEM….!!!
9.Do not rent from an over confident person or a person that want to be your mother or father!
10.I should not have to tell you but …don’t rent from a male that is only seeking female roommates…SOCIOPATH….you will be raped and possibly dismembered. $100 dollar rents and personal services (sounds like sex to me…..) but you’re an adult…you decide.
11.Do not rent from a person that offers you to share a room with their child. That’s unsafe, disgusting, and you will be in Jail because the trap is to charge you large amounts of cash to avoid sexual assault charges. (Don’t Forget…you are living in New York City it’s all about money here)
12.Don’t move into a house that does not provide access to a kitchen or a bathroom and for heavens’ sake if you don’t have your own roommate…DO NOT RENT A ROOM FOR SHARE!!!
13.Do not move into a 420 friendly house (theft, prostitution, and discomfort is guaranteed)
